What's Your Superpower?

Prayer Call: What's Your Superpower?
1 Peter 4:10
1 Peter 4:10
"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."
If you have ever seen The Incredibles, you know it is more than just a fun superhero movie. It is really a picture of what happens when people try to hide what makes them powerful. The Parr family looked ordinary on the outside, but inside each of them was something incredible.
Dash could run at lightning speed, but he was told to slow down. Violet could create force fields, but she hid behind her hair. Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl got stuck in boring jobs, pretending they were normal and trying to fit in. They were never meant to bury their gifts. They were meant to use them to bless and protect others.
And that is what I want to remind you this morning. God never intended for you to hide your superpowers — your gifts and talents — either.
1 Peter 4:10 is a powerful verse. It was written by Peter to Christians who were under real pressure and persecution throughout Asia Minor. It would have been easier for them to shrink back, stay silent, and hide what God gave them. But Peter said, do not hide what heaven gave you. You are a steward of grace.
I love when Peter says, “Whatever gift you have received,” because the word for gift in Greek is charisma, which means grace-gift. You and I did not earn it. It was given by the Holy Spirit for the good of the whole body of Christ. You cannot brag about it. You did not create it yourself. It is a grace gift for the Kingdom. So your story, your skills, your words of encouragement, your compassion — that is your superpower. It is grace on display. And the Kingdom needs what is inside you.
I love how The Incredibles shows this. The Parr family looked ordinary, but each of them had something incredible inside. The problem was they were told, hide your powers, blend in, stay small. But when trouble came, they realized hiding their gifts never saved anyone. They had to step out of hiding and use what they had to protect and bless their community.
And that is the Kingdom too. God says, each of you has something. It might feel small to you, but it is big in the hands of the One who gave it. So this morning, I want to challenge you with three quick reminders:
Pinpoint Your Power: Do not talk yourself out of what God has already put in you. Ask God, Lord, what gift have You given me? What comes naturally that blesses others? You cannot steward what you will not name.
Protect Your Power: Peter says we are to be faithful stewards. Do not let fear, comparison, or busyness bury your gift. Stay prayerful, guard your mind from doubt, and keep your heart humble so you do not misuse what God gave you. There is no need to compare your gift to someone else’s gift. Your gift was tailor made for you and for God’s Kingdom. Do not worry if someone has more gifts than you. It is okay for you to have one and someone else to have three. You do not know what it costs to carry the three. Just use your one with everything you have got.
Put Your Power to Work: Peter says your gift is meant “to serve others.” Grace does not sit on a shelf. It flows out. Ask God, who can I serve with this gift today? How can I speak life, encourage someone, or open a door for someone else today?
BFB, in the Kingdom, your gift is not a costume you wear just to feel good. No, it is a calling you live out so that others can taste the goodness of God through you.
So here is the Blockbuster Truth for the week:
In the Kingdom, your gift is grace on display. It is not for hiding, it is for helping.
Here is my prayer for us today: Our Father and our God, thank You for the gifts and talents that You have placed inside each of us. Help us to see it clearly, protect it faithfully, and put it to work generously. Let our lives be living proof of Your many colored grace. And give us courage, even when the world tells us to hide. We give You glory and take no credit. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Now, go use your superpower and do not you dare bury it. I love you BFB and there is nothing you can do about it.

Good morning Pastor Cole and Beulah, This is a very good word. We are new to Florida and I am an accountant and finance coach. I teach finance/budgeting courses that may be helpful to the congregation. I would be open to discuss with you setting up a class(es) at no cost to the church. Again, we have just moved here and we have attended your Sunday church service for the last 2 weeks. We have enjoyed service, and have loved both of your sermons when seem to apply to us in so many ways. My email is listed above and I can be reached at 623-401-2498. Thank you and may GOD continue to bless you and the congregation.
